We accept most insurance plans. Prior to your appointment,
please verify that your plan is current and one with which
Dr. Miller participates. We are now able to bill most secondary
insurances along with your primary insurance for all office
visits. Please be aware that most insurance companies do
not pay for refractions, which is a visual acuity test that
measures your nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
We are HIPPA compliant, so please make sure you take the
time to read the HIPPA Compliancy, which will be available
in our office at the same time of your appointment.

Cataract Surgery is the safest and most common surgery
performed in the field of medicine today. Dr. Miller performs
approximately 1,000 cataract surgeries every year.
Everyone will develop a cataract if they live long enough.
Currently there is no medical treatment to reverse or prevent
the development of cataracts. A cataract is a progressive
clouding of the eye's natural lens. Cataract sufferers usually
complain of glare, halos, dimming of vision, difficulty
with reading and driving at night -- some even complain
of double vision. Today, cataract surgery is performed on
an out-patient basis and only takes a few minutes. Your
cataract will be removed with the most advanced technique,
called Phacoemulsification, under topical anesthesia. Once
your cataract is removed, it will be replaced with a silicone
lens designed to correct any nearsightedness or farsightedness
you may have. One very unique procedure done by Dr. Miller
at the time of surgery is a refractive procedure to correct
astigmatism. Therefore, the need for glasses after surgery
may be minimal.

Refractive Surgery includes Lasik, PRK, CK, Wavefront,
Custom Ablation, and Phakic Intraocular Lenses.
Lasik surgery is a remarkable technology that reshapes
the cornea by using a cool beam of light. Lasik corrects
people with nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Currently, Dr. Miller uses the Visx Starr 3 Laser. Visx
has been used since the first Lasik was performed and has
a proven track record for accuracy and reliability. They
continue to upgrade technology and are now FDA approved
for Wavefront.
Dr. Miller has performed over 5,000 Lasik procedures with
an incredibly low enhancement rate of 4%. The national guidelines
for Lasik enhancement recommends a 15% or under enhancement
rate. To find out more on refractive surgery and which surgery
best meets your needs, please call our office and schedule
a complimentary consultation.
CustomView by Visx
The CustomVue procedure uses WaveScan technology to measure the imperfections in an individual’s vision and tailor a correction “designed” by the unique characteristics of the patient’s eyes. By providing 25 times more precision than standard methods used to fit glasses and contact lenses, WaveScan technology captures imperfections that could not have been measured before. This information is then transferred to the laser to deliver a new level of precision and accuracy matched to the patient’s individual needs.
For years, glasses and contact lenses have been the standard for vision correction. However, these approaches are limited in their ability to correct unique imperfections in an individual’s vision. In fact, thousands of individuals may have the same prescription, but have different correction needs. With CustomVue, individuals may be able to achieve the full potential of their vision.

If the cornea is damaged--whether as a result of another
eye surgery, dystrophy, infection, injury or keratoconus--it
may become swollen or scarred and will lose its clarity.
In some cases, medications or a special contact lens are
prescribed. If Dr. Miller decides a corneal transplant is
needed, your name will be placed on a list with our local
eye bank and when a donor becomes available, your surgery
will be scheduled within 24 to 48 hours. All corneas are
tested for a variety of viruses and must meet strict criteria
before they are released for transplant surgery. Surgery is
done on an outpatient basis and can be done under local
anesthesia. A successful corneal transplant requires care
and attention on both the part of the surgeon and the patient.
Of course, corneal transplant surgery would not be possible
without the thousands of generous donors and their families
who have donated corneal tissue so that others
may see.
